3. Describe a credible failure and consequence.
4. Identify preventive and detective controls.
5. Select evidence for the remaining uncertainty.
6. Record the conclusion and monitoring trigger.

Worked example

For batch disposition, the assurance unit is the release decision and its supporting records—not the entire ERP module. Evidence concentrates on status calculation, exception visibility, authorization, record linkage, and interface reconciliation.

When to use—and when not to

Use when: Scoping a new system, defining critical workflows, or reducing broad regression suites.

Do not use as-is when: A mandatory prescriptive test is explicitly required; still use the method to explain context.

Limitations

Quality depends on cross-functional process knowledge and a credible failure analysis.
